EdgeSwitch - Link Aggregation Groups (LAG)


Overview


Readers will learn how to create Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs) on the EdgeSwitch.

The network topology is shown below. The following interfaces are in use on the EdgeSwitches (ES).

ES-1

  • 0/7 (LAG1) - Tagged (T) VLAN10,20
  • 0/8 (LAG1) - Tagged (T) VLAN10,20

ES-2

  • 0/7 (LAG1) - Tagged (T) VLAN10,20
  • 0/8 (LAG1) - Tagged (T) VLAN10,20

 The 0/7 and 0/8 ports will be bundled under a single logical interface (LAG1).


Adding LAG interfaces

GUI: Access the Graphical User Interface (GUI) on both EdgeSwitches.

1. Navigate to the Dashboard tab and select interface 0/7 and 0/8.

2. Click on the 'Aggregate' button in the top right corner and add the interfaces to LAG1.

NOTE: By default, EdgeSwitches use dynamic link aggregation (LACP). Another supported link aggregation mode is static. 
 
You can modify the link aggregation mode and load-balancing method by clicking on the button.png button and selecting edit.png (edit).

3. Navigate to the VLANs tab to create the VLANs.

VLANs > New VLAN ID

Enter 10 and select + 

VLANs > New VLAN ID

Enter 20 and select + 

4. Associate the LAG with the VLANs created above by clicking on either the 0/7 or 0/8 port in the wizard.

#Row VLAN1:
Untagged (U) ports: 0/7, 0/8

#Row VLAN10:
Tagged (T) ports: 0/7, 0/8

#Row VLAN20:
Tagged (T) ports: 0/7, 0/8

5. Apply the configuration changes.


The CLI equivalent of this configuration is shown below.

CLI: Access the command line interface (CLI). You can do this by using a program such as PuTTY.

enable

vlan database
vlan 10,20
exit

configure

interface 0/7-0/8
addport 3/1
vlan tagging 10,20
vlan participation include 10,20
exit

interface lag 1
no port-channel static
vlan tagging 10,20
vlan participation include 10,20
exit

#ES-2
enable

vlan database
vlan 10,20
exit

configure

interface 0/7-0/8
addport 3/1
vlan tagging 10,20
vlan participation include 10,20
exit

interface lag 1
no port-channel static
vlan tagging 10,20
vlan participation include 10,20
exit
NOTE:  To change the link aggregation mode from dynamic (LACP) to static, add the port-channel static statement under the lag interface configuration.
