Using Terminal on Mac or Putty on Windows:

user$ ssh ubnt@192.168.1.2
ubnt@192.168.1.2's password:

2. Show Active and Backup Versions

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #show bootvar

backup   <none>
Current Active : 1.2.0.4792511
Next Active    : 1.2.0.4792511

3. Download Firmware. Download the current firmware from the EdgeSwitch Downloads page.

4. Upload Current Firmware. In this step we will upload the firmware to the EdgeSwitch using tftp or ftp using your favorite tftp/ftp server or in this case, the default tftp server on a Mac.

Issue the copy command using ftp or tftp.

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #copy tftp://<ipoftftpserver>/<firmwareversion>.stk backup

Or

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #copy ftp://<user>@<ipaddr|hostname>/<path>/<filename>.stk backup

Make sure you add "backup" after the file path to indicate where to upload on the EdgeSwitch. For example:

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #copy tftp://10.0.100.38/ES-es48.v1.3.0.4831995.stk backup

Mode........................................... TFTP
Set Server IP.................................. 10.0.100.38
Path........................................... ./
Filename....................................... ES-es48.v1.3.0.4831995.stk
Data Type...................................... Code
Destination Filename........................... backup

Management access will be blocked for the duration of the transfer

Note: this transfer could take some time to complete.

5. Set the Next Boot Firmware. This will tell the EdgeSwitch to boot the firmware located in the backup location.

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #boot system backup
Activating image backup ..

6. Check Active and Backup Firmware. The indicates the firmware that will boot after the next restart. If the command in step 5 was issued properly, it will boot the firmware in the backup location and it will replace the active firmware after restarting.

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #show bootvar

-------  --------------------  ----------------------------------------
Image    Version               Descriptions
-------  --------------------  ----------------------------------------
active   1.2.0.4792511
backup  *1.3.0.4831995

Current Active : 1.2.0.4792511
Next Active    : 1.3.0.4831995

7. Restart Switch. In this case, issuing the "reload" command in Enable Mode will restart the switch. Make sure any configuration changes have been saved before restarting.

(UBNT EdgeSwitch) #reload
Are you sure you would like to reset the system? (y/n) y
