EdgeSwitch - Firmware Upgrade


Overview


This article describes the steps needed to upgrade the EdgeSwitch (ES) firmware using either the GUI or the Command Line Interface (CLI).

If the currently active firmware is 1.0.0 it may be necessary to incrementally upgrade to 1.0.1 before upgrading to the latest version. The latest EdgeSwitch firmware can be downloaded from the EdgeSwitch Download Section.

NOTES & REQUIREMENTS: 
Applicable to the latest EdgeSwitch firmware on all EdgeSwitch models. Please see the Related Articles below for more information.

GUI: Access the Graphical User Interface (GUI).

1. Navigate to the firmware configuration and upgrade section.

Basic > Firmware Upgrade 

NOTE: On older firmware versions, this section is listed under System > Firmware > Configuration and Upgrade.

2. Upload the new firmware to the switch.

  • Click on the  icon for the backup firmware.
  • Upload the previously downloaded ES firmware and click on  to start the upload.
  • Select the newly uploaded firmware to be the next active firmware.

3. Restart the switch.

Basic > Restart Switch

You will need a way to transfer files to and from the ES, such as a TFTP or FTP server for example.

CLI: Access the command line interface (CLI). You can do this by using a program such as PuTTY.

1. Enter privileged mode.

enable

2. Show the currently active and backup firmware.

show bootvar

3.  Upload the new firmware to the switch.

copy ftp://<user>@<ip-address>/<filename> backup

copy tftp://192.168.1.10/ES-eswh.v1.7.1.4993748.stk backup

4. Select the newly uploaded firmware to be the next active firmware.

5. Verify the active and backup firmware.

7. Restart the Switch.

8. Verify the active and backup firmware.
