sunMAX - Install: Solar Gateway

Solar Gateway Purpose

The purpose of the Solar Gateway is to communicate with and gather data from all Microinverters in the solar array and forward information to Ubiquiti’s sunMAX Cloud Management system via the customer home network.

LED Overview

The hardware LEDs provide insight into solar operation.

  • The Power LED will light steady green when the device is connected to a power source. The LED may flash during general system activity.
  • The Network Activity LED will light steady green when the network and cloud are connected. It will light red if a network connection cannot be established.
  • The Inverter Activity LED will light steady green if all Microinverters are detected. It will light yellow if one or more of the Microinverters are missing and light red if errors are detected on any of the Microinverters.

Connectors

Because the Solar Gateway plugs a single Microinverter and Trunk cable, it features two external connectors:

  1. The Input connector runs from the Solar Gateway to a Microinverter.
  2. The Output connector runs from the AC trunk cable to the Solar Gateway.

Steps to Install

  1. To install the Solar gateway, tilt the device forward and hook it underneath the upper edge of the solar module railing. Rotate the gateway down until it stops and rests along the side of the solar module.
  2. Use the AC Disconnect Tool to disconnect the AC trunk cable from the Microinverter.
  3. Connect the AC trunk cable (that was previously connected to the Microinverter) to the Output connector on the Solar Gateway.
  4. Connect the Input cable on the Solar Gateway to the four-prong connector on the Microinverter
Note: The unit will become powered when the AC circuit closes.

To review:

The purpose of the Solar Gateway is to communicate with and gather data from all Microinverters in the solar array and forward information to Ubiquiti’s sunMAX Cloud Management system via the customer home network.

Connect the Gateway between a Microinverter and AC trunk cable.

Use the Install app to set up the Gateway software and begin provisioning your equipment so it can be monitored via Ubiquiti site.
