UniFi VoIP - Standalone UniFi VoIP Phone Configuration

Initial Configuration

After powering on the UVP, follow these steps:

  1. Select the language.
  2. Sign in using your Google account. If you do not have one the next step will give you an opportunity to create one.
  3. Create a new Google account (or skip this step).
  4. Select your timezone.
  5. After this basic configuration you will be shown a welcome screen.

Press the Settings icon at the bottom left of the screen to go to Phone Settings page and start your SIP account configuration.

  1. Press SIP Service and then SIP accounts.
  2. Press Add account.
  3. Complete the SIP account information and press OK.

The fields you will have to fill out are the following:

Server

SIP server IP address or hostname for registration

IP-based

Check it if your are using IP-based authentication

User name

SIP user ID (ask your PBX administrator)

Password

SIP password (ask your PBX administrator)

Authentication name (optional)

The username used to authenticate, if required

Display name (optional)

The name that will be displayed as Caller ID to other users when you call them

Display extension (optional)

The extension that will be displayed to other users

Voicemail number

The extension where the voicemail service can be reached at your PBX

Outbound proxy (optional)

The SIP proxy used for outbound calls, if required

Once you've successfully entered this data, the UVP will show the SIP accounts page with the new account. If it was properly configured, you'll see a message saying Receiving calls. If not, you'll see a message saying Not connected to server (error: 408).


Audio Codecs and DTMF Configuration (Optional)

If you wish, you can select what audio codecs and DTMF type to use by following these steps: 

  1. Go to the SIP settings page and press the corresponding option on the Audio codecs menu to select the codecs you want to use (by default all codecs are selected).
  2. Press back twice to return to the Phone Settings page and press the Call menu.
  3. You can modify the DTMF type to be used here (the preferred option is RFC-2833)

How to Select an Incoming Call Action

1. Go to the Phone Settings page and press the Call menu.

2. You can define what the phone will do when an incoming call is received by pressing on Incoming call action.

The options are:

Ring

The incoming calls will terminate on the UVP phone

Do not disturb

The UVP will not accept incoming calls and they will be sent to voicemail

Forward

All incoming calls will be redirected to a user-defined destination

Auto-answer

The incoming calls are answered automatically

3. Once you follow all these steps the UVP configuration will be complete and you will be ready to use your phone with either Asterisk or FreeSWITCH based PBXs.


How to Remove an Account

Go to the SIP accounts page, select the account you want to remove and press the corresponding trash icon. The contacts you have added on Android will be available to the UVP but you won't be able to add contacts manually from within the UVP Phone application.
