UNMS - How to Find Logs and Report Bugs


Overview


This article describes where to find device support files and logs, both in your devices and within UNMS. These files will be essential for any sort of problem-solving or troubleshooting.

NOTES & REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Make sure your syslog is turned on and the error is actually happening when making device logs.
  • Do not link your support info files publicly. Only send them through private message or an email.

UNMS Logs Location

The UNMS server logs are stored in /home/unms/data/logs/ on the UNMS server. These logs include information about runtime problems or devices connections. You can also download logs directly from the UNMS Web UI in Settings > Maintenance > Download Support Info

During an upgrade to a new UNMS version, UNMS Upgrade logs are created in /home/unms/data/update/update.log. In version 0.14.0+ / 1.0.0-beta.3+, those logs can be downloaded from the GUI as well. There is also a short description in case of an error during an upgrade.

Log into the device and click System > Download Support File.

Finding Logs on Devices via SSH

Different devices store logs differently. The first option is to download the support file which will include the logs via the device UI, or by accessing the device via SSH and then following these instructions depending on the product line:

EdgeRouter and uFiber OLT

less /var/log/unms.error
less /var/log/unms.log

EdgeSwitch

1. Enter into user privilege mode.

enable

2. Find UNMS info in the support file

show unms log

airMAX M and airMAX AC

1. Device service Syslog has to be allowed.

less /var/log/messages

2. Or file syslog.txt from device support file.

3. For airMAX devices with 8.6.0+ FW the path to UNMS logs changed to
less /var/log/unms.log

airCube

You can download support info via UI. It's a small blue lifebuoy icon. UNMS logs are included in FW 1.1.0+ (syslog).
