UFiber GPON - Triple-Play Services Using VLANs


Overview


This article will give the necessary information to implement VLANs on UFiber to provide Triple-Play services such as Internet, IPTV, and Voice.

The UFiber platform fully supports VLANs, which allows for providing Triple Play services to customers using GPON. This guide will give the steps to implement VLANs using UFiber and EdgeRouter products. The topology will consist of a router such as an ER-8-XG with VLANs configured, UF-OLT or UF-OLT-4, and UF-NanoUF-LOCO or UF-WIFI along with the accessories and proper setup discussed in other articles.

NOTE: See our Accessories article for more information on the official UFiber (GPON) accessories.

This is done using ONU Profiles which can be created in the Web UI or using UNMS. It is also possible to use these steps to create different Profiles for different Internet service packages to limit bandwidth based on subscribed service plans.

In the example, VLAN100 will be pushed to all three Nano G devices. VLAN200 will be pushed to UF-Nano-2 and UF-Nano-3, whereas VLAN300 will only be pushed to UF-Nano-3.


Creating and Assigning ONU Bridge Mode Profiles

Follow the steps below to add the VLANs to the SFP+ uplink port(s) and the ONU Profiles using the OLT Web UI:

GUI: Access the UF-OLT Web UI.

1. Navigate to the Dashboard tab to add the VLANs to the SFP+ uplink port(s).

Dashboard > SFP+1 > Actions > Config

Native VLAN: -
Include VLANs: 100, 200, 300 
NOTE: You may create multiple ONU profiles to include or exclude VLANs as needed.

2. Navigate to the ONU Profiles tab to create the different Bridge Mode profiles and add the necessary VLANs.

Profile 1: Internet

Name: Internet
Admin Password: <secret>
Mode: Bridge
Native VLAN: 100
Include VLANs: -

Profile 2: Internet, IPTV

Name: Internet, IPTV
Admin Password: <secret>
Mode: Bridge
Native VLAN: 100
Include VLANs: 200

Profile 3: Internet, IPTV, Voice

Name: Internet, IPTV, Voice
Admin Password: <secret>
Mode: Bridge
Native VLAN: 100
Include VLANs: 200, 300

3. Navigate to the ONU List tab to assign the profile to one of the connected ONUs.

ONU List > Select ONU > Actions > Config

Name: UF-Nano-3
Enable:
Checked
Profile: Internet, IPTV, Voice

To add a Bridge Mode profile using the Ubiquiti Network Management System (UNMS), follow the steps below:

GUI: Access the UNMS Controller Web Portal.

1. Navigate to the Devices  devices.png  and select the UFiber OLT.

2. Select Ports  ports.png  and modify the configuration of the SFP+ port(s).

Ports > SFP+1 > Configuration

Native VLAN: -
VLANs: 100, 200, 300

2. Select ONU Profiles  onu-profiles.png  and add a new Bridge Mode profile.

ONU Profiles > + ADD ONU PROFILE

Name: Internet, IPTV, Voice
Admin Password: <secret>
ONU Mode: Bridge
Native VLAN: 100
VLANs: 200, 300

NOTE: The VLANs set here must also be included on the SFP+ uplink port. 

3. Navigate to the ONUs  onus.png  and select one of the connected ONUs.

4. Navigate to the Configuration  configuration.png  settings of the ONUs and assign the newly created profiles.

ONUs > Select ONU > Configuration > Basic settings
